Genuine
sorrow and grief are stressful and should be considered to be normal
emotional responses that need to be dealt with appropriately.
Avoid hiding from grief with drink, pills or similar means.
Do not be embarrassed to seek outside help as needed.
Think
of grief as a more intense form of sorrow.
Grieving is a process that needs to be worked through.
Suppressing grief is often only a delaying tactic that yields poor
results. Hiding from life
behind extended grieving is not working through it.
Grief
From Co-Dependency, etc.
A
personal loss when you have independent strength is bad enough, but losing
a person that carried your responsibilities for you can be devastating.
Then it is too easy to hide from your fears behind grieving instead
of facing the reality that you need to quickly learn how to become
self-sufficient—a move that overcomes fears.
Look around at the people that you know who have and are making
tragic mistakes with others instead of learning how to take their own
responsibilities. That
behavior is a recipe for concentrated stress soup. (See Starting Over
page.)
If
you are caught in co-dependency, start improving your ability to carry
your own responsibilities. Do
not rest until you are in a continuing process of gaining personal control
for yourself. Resist your
doubts and fears and make personal progress happen.
This is the same advice that you would give to those you care about
that are in need. Take the
responsibility that you would have them take.
In time, personal development can be most rewarding and become a
comfortable process.
